Oh Martin!

Oh Martin!
I find myself muttering these words at least twice a day this year. That little boy is the definition of a strong willed child! Its amazing how he can frustrate me to the core, yet I love him more then anything in the entire world.
He turned 6 last month. Six! Its hard to believe he went from adorable baby hood to terrible-twos, to trying-threes, to are-you-serious? fours, and I-cant-wait-for-him-to-go-to-school fives! Thats right, I was not that mother who tearfully hugged her child goodbye or stood anxiously in the corner watching thefirst moments in the class room. I was the mom that waved enthusiastically "Have a great day baby!". I was that mom that held her breath every time the phone rang hoping it was not another call from the principle!
OH MARTIN!!
I love that little man so... But he can sure drive you nuts! He made me grow as a person and a parent more then any other though. And I thank him for that. I never knew how strong I was until I had a child!
Besides all the back and forth with "Don't argue with me! Do what I say the first time i say it. No, 'OK' is not an answer. What do you say to me? Yes, Ma'am!", He is one of the smartest children I know! He has a passion for learning. He LOVES SCHOOL. He is amazing at drawing and coloring for his age and has a great imagination. We started hooked on phonics with him this past summer and he caught on so quickly! He loves books and reading together as a family. Its so amazing and FUNNY to see the wheels in his brain turn. Like when he comes home from school and has a story to tell me, watching him try and get it all out always brings a smile to my face. I try to catch as much of it as I can on video because i know that expression wont be there forever. He has a fascination with growing up. (What kid doesn't?) But it has really
come to life over the last year. He talks about being a police officer daily. He told me a few months ago he was thinking about being a "CAKE BOSS" too. He makes me laugh! He asks about getting married and is even thinking about his own children he will have some day. I must be doing something right to have such a goal driven boy!
Martin always needs someone to play with him. His sister can play for hours on end by herself, but when Martin is bored... You'll usually find him right in the middle of an adults conversation or huddled up crying on the floor cause Emi wont play with him. He may pester his sister but he sure loves when she agrees to play with him. Rare moments indeed. (I'm so happy I had 2 kids so close together!)
I'm happy that Martin is who God made him to be. I can see him grown managing and leading 100's because he has the spirit to do so! His teachers tell me he is the leader of the pack, on the play ground, and in the classroom. Allthe  kids want to be Martin's friend. Thank you Lord for favor! My prayer for him right now is he will be able to focus and obey authority and love others with his words. I see so much wonder in his eyes, but also so much frustration. Such a "Man" in a 6 year old's body. He has a lot of learning to do, But Dustin and I are up for the challenge.

One of our first Games of Checkers. Learning can be HARD sometimes!
