This Memorial Day Dustin's parents took us to Oklahoma City to the zoo. It was a pretty good day! We woke up early that morning and went to McDonald's in Eufaula. We all stuffed ourselves stupid and then we slowly made our way to OKC. The drive was not entirely pleasant. Neither us, nor Dustin's parents have very big vehicles and no matter what car seat we take, Martin always seems to ride like a king with all the room, while Jane and I (or whoever gets stuck in the back seat) are squashed up to the door, or sitting side ways with a crick in our necks! Even though I tried to come prepared with toys and snacks, Martin didn't understand why he had to sit in his car seat for so long. He cried and fussed and carried on the whole way there up until the last 10 minutes or so were he dozed off. We got to the zoo to find that it wasn't TOO crowded considering the holiday... But Martin was so sleepy. The only things he showed much of an interest in was the fishes, I think mainly because he could see real close up to them. We were at the zoo from about 11am-3pm. We walked the entire thing, and let me tell you, I was plumb pooped by the time we left! Martin was sound asleep in his stroller, and we were all starving! For some reason we took a detour and drove to Norman OK, to eat at a restaurant that turned out to be closed. We drove around for what seems like FOREVER before we finally decided to eat at Rib Crib. Martin at this point woke up and was ready to eat, and run all over the place. He climbed all over the booth and table until our food arrived and even after he was eating he couldn't sit still. We decided we better let him let off some energy before we started the drive home. I didn't want to listen to him whine like we had on the way up there! So we drove around for another HOUR looking for a park, ended up at the OU campus and let martin run through an open field until he'd gotten to hot to run anymore. Then when I thought we were finally going to head home, it had to be close to six by now, Dustin decided he wanted to check out the local HASTINGS, so we drove around another HOUR looking for that! needless to say I was frustrated and tired. But we stopped and we all got out and browsed the store. I bought a couple books for Martin and we headed home. Even after letting Martin expel some of his energy, he still fussed the whole way home and I was ready to pull my hair out and NEVER GO AGAIN! It was an experience let me tell ya! We got home around 8:30 or 9pm. *sigh* what a relief! The next time we go anywhere, not only are we taking a bigger vehicle, but Martin will have a DVD player to keep him occupied. There is nothing worse then being trapped in the back seat of a small car with a crying one year old! THE END!
